What is the difference between physiotherapy and remedial massage therapy? Well, here at HAC the answer is simple; two different ways to reach a common goal. Our clients here at Hunter Allied Care are offered both physiotherapy and remedial massage. Kristy Hord, our resident physiotherapist and Jackie Scott, our remedial masseuse both work towards repairing and reducing swelling, restoring function, and relieving pain. There's more to it than that though, lets take a look at the difference between physiotherapy and massage. At HAC, our treatments are tailored to specific situations and clients. Kristy is more focused on recovery and rehabilitation. This treatment is perfect for clients recovering from accidents or surgery. Most clients seeing Kristy are generally recovering from an injury or accident, or have undergone extensive pain and trying to get back to a fully functional life as soon as they can.
Physiotherapy treatments will provide you with a care plan, with the goal being to restore function, to get you back on your feet or get an athlete back onto the field as quickly as possible. Kristy incorporates a range of treatments for her clients including hydrotherapy, gym rehab, dry needling, joint manipulation, soft tissue massage and stretching…to name a few. Remedial massage, on the other hand, is a treatment that is used not only in a treatment plan, but also within daily life. Massage is used to aid relaxation, reduce swelling, improve circulation, and release tension in sore muscles. Jackie treats a number of health issues with massage, not only body recovery or rehabilitation. Remedial massage can aid with mental strain, anxiety and depression, skin health, and the reduction of stress hormones. When you have an injury or you are post-surgery, your body can tense up and develop gristly knots in your muscles. Both massage and physiotherapy are great ways to relieve stress and promote muscle recovery. The main difference is that Kristy is on a mission to see her clients improve so that they move on and be pain free in the immediate future. Jackie also wants to see you improve and be pain free, however she can work with you well into the future. Physiotherapy often targets one specific injury or issue, whereas massage can encompass a range of issues to keep you happy, relaxed, and healthy in the long term. Book Kristy HERE – physio appointments start from $90 Book Jackie HERE – remedial massage starts from $55
