Award Winning Business

My first blog as an Award Winning Business Owner!

This is my first blog as an award winning business owner! Wow, still super excited. Word to the wise though, don't wing it when it comes to accepting an award! Winging it works if you think you are going to win and you have mentally prepared yourself. When you have no idea that you are going to win and don't think you stand a chance, then winging it fails! This blog is what I wanted to say 🙄

My husband, Dr Peter Spittaler and I started this business because I saw a gap in the market. Many years ago I had some medical issues that led me to have a multitude of operations over a 5 year period. During that time my surgeon(s) were amazing and supportive and explained things very well though the one thing lacking was overall wholistic care. They are surgeons after all, they love to operate. Once you leave the operating theatre, it's a different story.

I love the work Peter does, he is a really great surgeon (no bias here). I wanted to add on to that greatness and to create a space where our clients can come and be totally cared for. Many of Peter's patients have ongoing issues with chronic pain. Having long term health conditions can led to so many other issues, mentally and physically. Neurosurgeons don't just operate on the brain, they also look after necks, spines, carpel tunnel - all sorts of different issues.

How we Started

Peter and I decided to integrate services and get together a team of allied health professionals. We had a vision to bring the best team we could to our clients and in November 2017 Hunter Allied Care was born. Kristy Hord (our physio) came with fantastic credentials and is the most caring person I have ever met. She now has had so much experience in the musculoskeletal field. She attends surgery with Peter on a regular basis. Monique Aganovic has also been with us from the start, she has moved on to become our Marketing Manager and she was also a finalist in the Hunter Business Awards as the Kristen Keegan Young Business Executive.

Jody Kerr Psychologist and Emily Ross Dietitian are now part of the team. Backed up by Meg Hassan, our amazing receptionist greeting everyone with her happy face. Our clinicians work hand in hand with Dr Spittaler and help people overcome, recover or in some cases learn to live with whatever they are going through physically and mentally.
Hunter Allied Care is a client focused business, the clients are at the centre of everything we do. I feel grateful to come to work everyday and hang out with this amazing team. I am appreciative that we have been recognised as a business that has a place at the winners table. Of course all the HAC team are winners in my eyes. Now it's official, we are an Award Winning Business!

Physio vs Remedial Massage

26/2/2019

What is the difference between physiotherapy and remedial massage therapy? Well, here at HAC the answer is simple; two different ways to reach a common goal.

Our clients here at Hunter Allied Care are offered both physiotherapy and remedial massage. Kristy Hord, our resident physiotherapist and Jackie Scott, our remedial masseuse both work towards repairing and reducing swelling, restoring function, and relieving pain.

There's more to it than that though, lets take a look at the difference between physiotherapy and massage.

Winter is finally officially here. For most of us that means sneaking an extra five minutes in bed each morning, fighting against the cold air after a shower, and stocking up on warm soups. So how do you convince yourself to jump out of bed and tackle the day ahead? Here are some top tips on beating that winter slump and staying healthy throughout the season.

World Class Equipment for JHH

24/4/2018

This Monday, Dr Spittaler launched the new O-Arm and Stealth equipment at John Hunter Hospital. This new piece of equipment can halve surgery times and help surgeons ensure the surgery runs smoothly and precisely. As the Director of Neurosurgery at John Hunter Hospital, Dr Spittaler was instrumental in acquiring this piece of equipment for the hospital, with the process taking several years. The machine is a win for the Hunter Region, with it being the first piece of its kind to exist in New South Wales, outside of Sydney.

Hunter Allied Care Blog Post Changing face of beauty
How and why do women put effort into looking good? Looking good means many different things to many different Australian women. According to the recent 2017 'Changing Faces of Beauty' report, 71% of women make an effort to look good for themselves. The more women value themselves, and in turn their beauty, the more it's changed social views on beauty trends. Currently, 64% of women believe that dermal facial fillers have become more socially acceptable compared to 5 years ago. Plus 42% of women said the desire to consider cosmetic treatments comes from wanting a boost to self-confidence.

This January, Dr Peter Spittaler and Kristy Hord had the opportunity to travel to Niseko to attend the Society of Neuromuscular Sciences Inc. 2018 conference. The conference was home to a bevy of medical experts and covered a variety of topics relevant to both neuroscience and physiotherapy. The team enjoyed the collaborative and educational talks at the event, whilst also getting to enjoy the beautiful and picturesque setting that was Niseko in the winter time.

New  year  plans:

22/1/2018

Following the holiday break, Hunter Allied Care has returned with some major changes! Following a reflection into what was best for our patients, and a holistic health treatment plan, we've decided to bring RN Louise Herfurth on board! Louise is a registered nurse, and will provide patients with both clinical and cosmetic neurotoxin treatments. Commonly known as 'botox', the treatments aim to help patients who suffer from clinical issues such as excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) or severe migraines. We're excited to introduce these treatments to the practice, and better provide our patients with a health care plan that covers all the bases! Louise will begin treatments in early February. Call us today to discuss plans or for any more information.

Following our focus on holistic health we have another practitioner joining the team in February, Ms Sarah Tew, an accredited dietitian. We hope that adding a dietician to the team will provide patients with an opportunity to improve their overall diet and health. This will be especially helpful to patients who are prepping for a surgery, or who are receiving physiotherapy treatments and looking to take another positive step towards a healthier life. Sarah is a member of the Dieticians Association of Australia (DAA), and is an Accredited Practicing Dietician (APD).

There are some big changes coming for us this year at Hunter Allied Care, and we can't wait to begin servicing our patients every need! To chat more about our new practitioners or availabilities, call us today (on 02 4940 0730) or message us via Facebook or email.
